Word of the Day iPhone App – Update

We have just updated our iPhone Word of the Day App. Now you can share the Word of the Day on Facebook and Twitter! Just tap the Facebook or Twitter buttons and the Word of the Day (and its meaning, and pronunciation if applicable) is posted on your Facebook wall or Twitter stream to share with all your friends and followers.

Sound volume and mute on iOS devices

We have previously posted about setting the sound volume on an iPhone and other iOS devices. This can be cumbersome as the hardware volume “rocker” button on the sides of these devices switch between setting the ringer volume and setting the volume of music and other sounds. Which volumes is set depends on what sound is currently “active” – if you are playing music then volume changes effect the volume of music, but otherwise the ringer volume is set.

(And not forgetting that the mute button also has to be turned off.)

It was for this reason that up to now, to set the volume of the audio pronunciations in our FlashCards and Word of the Day apps, the volume button needed to be pressed while the audio was actually playing. This could be unwieldy.

However, in the next versions of these apps, we have included changes that allow the volume to be changed while ever the app is running, regardless of whether a sound is playing or not.

Look for this change in versions 2.0.5 of Audio FlashCards for iPhone/iPod Touch, and Audio FlashCards for iPad. Also in this update we have included code that warns users, when the app is started, if the mute button is on.

Brazilian Portuguese FlashCards for Windows

Russian FlashCards Update

As per requests by users who are making there own Russian wordfiles, we have added a question marker key and a period (full stop) key to the keyboard used for the Spelling Exercise. The latest version (2.2.221) can be downloaded from our Russian language learning software pages.
