Searching

Searches for the Japanese can be made using

kanji,
kana, and
romaji.

Searches can also made for the English definitions.

The search results are displayed in the bottom 'Search Results" frame. After clicking on a search result, the words details will be displayed in the 'Word Definition' frame on the top left-hand side.

Romaji Pronunciation

The pronunciation of Japanese words can be viewed in the English script (romaji) by checking the "Show romaji pronunciation" checkbox.

Kanji Details

The details of any kanji character in the Word Definition window will be displayed when the mouse is hovered over the kanji,

Details include the ON and KUN pronunciation, the kanji's meaning, it number of strokes and details about its radical.

Using Kanji Lookup NEW!

Using the new Kanji Lookup feature, users can select kanji to search for using stroke order lookup or radical lookup. Start by clicking the Lookup button below the "Search String" textbox. That will bring up the "Kanji Lookup" dialogue.


Kanji Lookup Modes Kanji can be looked up using Radicals or Number of Stroke. The mode can be selected using the tab control at the top of the Kanji Lookup dialogue.


Radical Lookup Radicals can be looked up based on the radicals' number of strokes. The number of strokes is selected and then all the radicals with that number of stroke is displayed. Select the required radical and all of the kanji containing that radical will be displayed. By selecting a kanji with the mouse its details will be displayed in the blue Details Window. A kanji can be pasted into the Search String textbox by double clicking on it.


Stroke Number Lookup Radicals can be looked up based on the radicals' number of strokes. The number of strokes is selected and then all the radicals with that number of stroke is displayed. Select the required radical and all of the kanji containing that radical will be displayed. By selecting a kanji with the mouse its details will be displayed in the blue Details Window. A kanji can be pasted into the Search String textbox by double clicking on it.

Marking Words for Export

Words can be marked by doubling clicking them in the Search Results frame

or by clicking the "Toggle Word Mark" button.

Using Marked Words

All marked words can be viewed by clicking the "Manage Marked Words" button

The "Export Marked Word to XFL file" allows the marked words to be exported for use in Declan's Japanese FlashCards for studying and memorization.
