Welcome Page

The Welcome Page introduces ReadWrite Korean and includes instructions for getting started with using the software.

The simplest way to use the program is to progress through the pages and letters by clicking the

button on the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Letters Page

The Letters Page introduces each of the Hangul letters with a description of its pronunciation on the right hand side.

Examples of the use of the letters are provided in the Examples frame at the bottom of the page. Use the mouse to select each of the numbered examples and to hear its pronunciation recording.

The letters menu buttons allow users to move directly to any letter in the current lesson with a click of the mouse.

Letter Navigation Menu

The Letter Navigation Menu in the right-hand column of the main window allows users to proceed directly to any Hangul character by a simple click of the mouse.

Writing Page

The Writing Page illustrates and describes the correct way to write the individual Hangul letters and how the characters are combined into syllables and words.

There are three Writing Page modes:

Show Stroke Order - shows the numbered stroke order for each letter.
Animate Strokes - animates the strokes that make up a letter or word.
Practice Stokes - allows the user to practice writing hangul using the mouse to trace out the strokes

Reading Exercise

After the Hangul letters have been reviewed, a number exercises aid and test retention.

The first exercise is the Reading Exercise where the user records their reading of a Hangul syllable and then the recording is played along side the native speaker audio. The comparison helps users to judge the accuracy of their pronunciation.

Listening Exercise

The Listening Exercise tests listening comprehension by playing a recording of a Hangul syllable and then requiring the user to type in the corresponding Hangul letters.

Multiple Choice Exercise

The final exercise is the audio Multiple Choice Exercise where the audio recording of a Hangul word or syllable is played and the user selects the correct corresponding choice from a list of four.
